Corrections policy
How to report an error, what we do about it, and how corrections are recorded.
We will get things wrong. What matters is what happens next.
Reporting an error
Email editor@marketbrief.africa with the article's address and what you believe is wrong. If you can point to a source, that speeds things up considerably. Corrections are read before anything else in the inbox.
What we do
- Factual error. We check it against the primary source. If we were wrong, we correct the article and add a dated correction note to it explaining what changed.
- Missing context. If an article is accurate but leaves a materially misleading impression, we add the context and note the update.
- Typographical error. Fixed without a note, because nothing about the meaning changed.
- A figure has since changed. Reference pages are updated and the verification date is moved forward.
What we do not do
We do not delete an article to make an error disappear, and we do not edit a substantive claim without saying that we did. A correction note is a permanent part of the article.
Right of reply
If we have written about your company and you believe the piece is wrong, write to us with the specifics. A documented factual dispute gets a correction. A disagreement with a conclusion drawn from accurate facts is a difference of view, and we will say so.
